Ring out the old, ring in the new,
Ring, happy bells, across the snow:
The year is going, let him go;
Ring out the false, ring in the true. Alfred Tennyson
The final minutes of the old year tick past! The moving finger writes and, having writ, moves on. 2012 approaches fast – at least, if that’s the year we think it is.
For example, the Chinese lunar-solar calendar year 4,710 begins on 23 January 2012 dating from when Emperor Huang Ti introduced the zodiac cycle in 2600BC; and the celebration is more to do with Spring – a natural beginning.
In the purely lunar Muslim calendar the year is currently 1433.
The Gregorian calendar (Pope Gregory XIII) we now use was adopted in September 1752 and, the days between 3rd to 13th September were simply erased! Despite protestations by Protestants, this calendar change went ahead so that Britain would be in alignment with Europe which had already dispensed with their Julian calendar, (named after Julius Caesar in 45 BC).
Months had been named after rulers such as Augustus which has no relevance to the seasons. If we still followed the Julian calendar, I believe it would be 18 December 2011 and not the 31st.
Even the Mayan calendar end date has been disputed. All potentially confusing!
These artificial calendars are why solstices appear on different days such as the Winter Solstice on 21/22 December; or the Spring Equinox on March 19 – 21, up to six days’ variation because the Earth’s orbit is elliptical – and our calendars are not aligned with those natural events that affect everything else on our planet including our bodies and minds.
There is nothing in us that isn’t in the universe and nothing in the universe that does not exist within us, to paraphrase Gandhi.
Our “time” and dates are distinctly out of synch with Earthly and Lunar movements and influences.
As explained and perfectly illustrated on www.13moon.com by Eden Sky (whose beautiful calendars radiate galactic influences), the 13-Moon Calendar has been followed for over 5000 years. We are in the middle of the current year which runs from 26 July 2011 to 25 July 2012 and it is the Year of the White Rhythmic Wizard.
We find evidence of its use as a prehistoric synchronic measure in the remote past of China, Polynesia, and scattered across late neolithic Europe and the Middle East. Dr. José Argüelles, PhD
So what does the now famous 2012 hold for each of us and collectively? Free will is the first Law of the Universe and there are infinite timeline possibilities, so we’ll see as the days go by.
Just as each and every day commences with the dawning of new possibilities and opportunities to begin anew, the first numerical day of 2012 offers us all a chance to start afresh.
In one way, as Einstein and many others said, time doesn’t exist except in the present moment. THIS PRESENT MOMENT is the one that affects all others.
May all your moments be meaningful in 2012!
I hear fireworks!
